  • Title: From Extra to Professional: Finding Roles in Film
  • Description: Information and tips from actors and a casting agent for anyone who has ever thought, “I’d like to be an actor.”
  • Panelists: Terry L. Wilson (Middle GA Talent Agency), Chris Payne (Actor), Walter Duckworth (Actor), and moderated by Joe Finkelstein. 

Terry Wilson has worked behind the scenes with multiple theatre productions, pageants, fashion shows and indie films and has gained experience in casting, production assistance, behind the screen and continuity photography, decorating sets, wardrobe, location scouting, and craft services. In 2005 she started Middle GA Talent which has evolved into a Facebook Group with over 2000 members. In 2012 she published The Film & Video Production Resource Directory-Middle GA Area. In 2016, Middle GA Talent has transformed into an Agency to help bring more opportunities to the talent in Middle GA. In addition to all her involvement in the entertainment industry, Terry has 20 years of experience working in Human Resources and is a devoted wife and a proud mother of two.

Chris Payne is a lifelong native of Macon. He began his film acting career in 2011 appearing in a local indie that sparked his passion. He then continued his indie career with roles in Bee Sting and the award-winning Refuge (2013). Chris has also worked on well over 100 different productions as a background artist, including The Walking Dead, Brockmire, and Miracle Workers.

Walter Duckworth has been in the film industry since 2010. His experiences range from feature films to commercials. Credit films such as An Innocent Kiss, Exit 101, The Games That Children Play, I'll Be Homeless for Christmas and Ace the Zombie. Television shows consist of Bill O'Reilly's Legends and Lies, Murder Calls, Swamp Murders, Dead Of Night, Fatal Encounters, Clairvoyance, Shrink Rap and CMTs My Big Redneck Wedding. Other interests and personal information includes: lead singer of numerous bands for the past 20 yrs, Board of Director's member for Central Georgia Autism, Ltd., a non-profit organization, voice overs, antique car restoration enthusiast, ever supportive husband for 28 yrs to his wife, Lisa and hands on father to 2 amazing children, Walt and Paige.

PANELIST BIOS

Kalena Boller hosts the Georgia Public Broadcasting podcast, The Credits. In it, she meets the people who work behind the scenes in Georgia's multibillion dollar film industry, which now hosts the most feature-film productions in the world. After graduating from Howard University with a Bachelor of Arts in Film, Kalena moved to Atlanta and jumped right into the industry. Kalena got her first post-graduate on-set opportunity in June 2005 as an unpaid intern for a T-Payne music video. Kalena impressed the production staff so much that her unpaid internship turned into a paid Production Assistant gig on day one. Before leaving the film industry in 2019 as a location manager, Kalena racked up more than 40 credits to her name, including AMC's The Walking Dead and FOX's Star.

Dr. Michele Prettyman, co-founder of Daughters of Eve Media, is a media consultant, writer, and a scholar of film, media, and African American cinema. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Media Studies and Africana Studies at Mercer University, where she teaches screenwriting, digital storytelling and film studies courses. She is also a co-curator of the CollegeTown and the Tubman African American Film Festivals and has a longstanding partnership with the American Black Film Festival (ABFF), the oldest and largest African American film festival in the country. Dr. Prettyman is currently developing her own projects and frequently consults with other filmmakers on their work.

Chad Darnell casts talent all over the Southeast: from Richmond, VA to Birmingham, AL and Savannah and Atlanta, GA.  Most recent credits include the series FLORIDA GIRLS and the feature films LIVE!, THE POISON ROSE, EMPEROR, KILLERMAN, and THE COLL3TED.  He is also a writer/ producer/ director/ actor:  His screenplay DARLENE will begin production in Fall 2019 with Mary Lambert directing.  He will direct THE UNDERTAKER'S WIFE in late 2019.  His pilot MORTIFIED is currently in development with Hazy Mills.  As an actor, he most recently appeared as "Hedwig" in HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH in Atlanta.  He is the creator of The Lysistrata Project.  His podcast, OMG, I LOVE YOU is available on iTunes and Spotify.

Laura Lundy was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and grew up in Cedartown, Georgia. Laura graduated from Cumberland School of Law of Samford University where she obtained her Juris Doctorate. During law school, Laura trained at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in L.A. Laura now lives in Atlanta, Georgia. She serves as the Chief Judge for the Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit, which covers Polk County, Georgia, and Haralson County, Georgia. She is also an actress and co-founder of the group Safety Shot, a group trying to address sexual abuse within Georgia’s film industry.

Jameelah Nuriddin is an actress from Atlanta, and she now lives in Los Angeles.  Jameelah began her professional career as a 12-year-old actress, opposite Don Cheadle and Cicely Tyson. A wild storm of innovation and natural-born storyteller, Jameelah’s creative background lends a unique perspective as a business leader and project manager. A revolutionary producer and fundraiser she’s launched civic initiatives, global youth workshops, and professional programs for women, and raised over thousands for films centered around historic African-American women. She produced and edited the virtual reality film, 'SEE ME', using storytelling and new technology to address underlying social justice issues for women. Jameelah most recently partnered with the CEO and Founder of Advancing Women Executives, where she launched AWE Accelerator, a program designed to bring professional development training - including confidence-building and storytelling - to women in Fortune 500 companies. She was awarded ‘Best Film Editor’ in Women’s Independent Film Festival for Why I Dance.
